VILAF becomes World Law Group Member

Leading Viet Nam Law Firm VILAF Becomes World Law Group Member

Washington, D.C./The world’s most select network of independent law firms significantly enhanced its ASEAN offering with the addition of one of Vietnam’s oldest and most respected commercial law firms as a new member. Representatives from World Law Group member firms worldwide voted unanimously on April 17 to invite VILAF to join the network during its 2015 Spring Conference in Cartagena, Colombia.

With top-tier firms already long-time members in the largest economies among Association of Southeast Asia Nations – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand – all World Law Group member firms are delighted to have the most experienced and internationally focused firm in Vietnam to work with in the future, noted WLG President Emer Gilvarry after the conclusive vote.

Chairman Tung Ngo Thanh travelled to Cartagena to present his firm’s credentials to WLG members and said he was very pleased to accept the invitation to join the network on behalf of his firm’s partnership.

“Having already worked with several WLG firms on a variety of matters and now having met representatives of all member firms, I can say we are delighted to join such a prestigious organization,” Mr. Ngo said. “With the ever increasing demands from our clients to provide seamless regional and global legal assistance, joining the WLG will help us to better serve the needs of our clients by ensuring they have access to both legal and practical commercial advice from top legal minds anytime and anywhere in the world.”

From a small group of lawyers initially working with Clifford Chance from 1993 until 2000, VILAF’s legal team has grown to 50 lawyers and legal professionals, and is the largest partnership in Viet Nam today. Several of its senior lawyers have worked with the Vietnamese government in the development of the country’s business and investment laws, and bring an unparalleled knowledge of these laws to its work for clients at home and abroad.

In addition, many of the firm’s practitioners have worked with international law firms in foreign countries and/or in Vietnam, and are recognized as being among the country’s leading lawyers by industry observers including Chambers and Partners and the International Financial Law Review. A fullservice firm with comprehensive experience in a variety of industries, VILAF has offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi.

VILAF is one of four new members admitted to WLG membership at its Spring 2015 meeting. Other top-tier firms that joined WLG last weekend are Zhong Lun of the People’s Republic of China, Guyer & Regules of Uruguay and D’Empaire Reyna Abogados of Venezuela.

Established in 1988, World Law Group is one of the oldest, largest and most cohesive networks of leading independent law firms. Continuously recognized by Chambers and Partners as one of a select few “elite” global law firm networks, today World Law Group is made up of 56 member firms with nearly 20,000 lawyers serving clients from more than 325 offices in 70 countries.
